“Exquisitely sung, profoundly emotional, and oddly amusing. Sondheim’s masterpiece, brought back to its correct proportions, welcomes a eagerly-anticipated return to Broadway.” - The New York Times.

Observe the delightfully deranged partnership shared by the retaliatory Sweeney Todd and the energetic shopkeeper Mrs. Lovett. Set in the depths of a gothic London, this stage thriller presents a comical yet darkly Victorian tale of kin, homicide, class disparity, and suspicious little pastry shops.

Guided by the director of Hamilton, Thomas Kail, this revitalized musical features anew Hugh Wheeler’s acclaimed with the Tony Award book and esteemed composer Stephen Sondheim’s initial composition. The production also features the prize-winning choreography by Steven Hoggett and other innovative minds, including Mimi Lien (Scenes), Emilio Sosa (Costumes), Natasha Katz (Lighting), Nevin Steinberg (Sound), J. Jared Janas (Wig, Hair & Makeup), and Jeremy Chernick (Special effects).

Thanks to the remarkable 26-piece orchestration by Jonathan Tunick and musical supervision by Alex Lacamoire, audiences can savor new yet true interpretations of Sondheim’s famous hits such as “A Little Priest,” “Pirelli’s Miracle Elixir” and “The Worst Pies in London.”

During a prior interview with leading star Josh Groban, he reflects on his journey playing the character of the central barber.

“… for me what intrigued me the most about Sweeney Todd was the contradictions: the beautiful score combined with the darkly humorous content, the gloomy storyline. There’s such a juxtaposition of elegance and grimness in the character, combined with several of the most remarkable music and lyrics ever composed. It genuinely is nothing less than a masterpiece to perform, regardless of the type.”

Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street stands as one of Broadway’s most notable feats in the history of musicals, continually praised across its different incarnations by the Tony, Drama Desk, Olivier, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award-giving organizations.
