“Beautifully sung, profoundly emotional, and strangely amusing. Sondheim’s masterpiece, restored to its rightful proportions, greets a much-anticipated comeback to Broadway.” - The New York Times.

Observe the delightfully deranged partnership among the vengeful Sweeney Todd and the energetic shopkeeper Mrs. Lovett. Set in the depths of a gothic London, this theatrical thriller presents a humorous yet darkly Victorian tale of relatives, homicide, class disparity, and dubious little pastry shops.

Guided by the director of Hamilton, Thomas Kail, this renewed music production welcomes back Hugh Wheeler’s acclaimed with the Tony Award script and renowned composer Stephen Sondheim’s early music. In addition, it incorporates the prize-winning choreography by Steven Hoggett and other visionary artists, including Mimi Lien (Scenes), Emilio Sosa (Costumes), Natasha Katz (Lighting), Nevin Steinberg (Sound), J. Jared Janas (Wig, Hair & Makeup), and Jeremy Chernick (Special effects).

Thanks to the impressive 26-piece orchestration by Jonathan Tunick and musical supervision by Alex Lacamoire, spectators can enjoy novel yet true interpretations of Sondheim’s popular hits such as “A Little Priest,” “Pirelli’s Miracle Elixir” and “The Worst Pies in London.”

During a earlier interview with main actor Josh Groban, he reflects on his time playing the role of the title barber.

“… for me the most interesting aspect of Sweeney Todd was the oppositions: the lovely score matched with the sinisterly amusing content, the bleak storyline. There’s such a juxtaposition of beauty and darkness in the character, along with many of the most exceptional melodies and verses ever written. It genuinely is nothing but a masterpiece to act, irrespective of the genre.”

Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is one of Broadway’s most notable achievements in the chronicles of musicals, persistently praised across its diverse incarnations by the Tony, Drama Desk, Olivier, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award-giving institutions.
