“Splendidly sung, profoundly emotional, and strangely amusing. Sondheim’s masterpiece, restored to its appropriate proportions, greets a much-anticipated return to Broadway.” - The New York Times.

Observe the delightfully deranged partnership among the vengeance-seeking Sweeney Todd and the animated shopkeeper Mrs. Lovett. Located in the depths of a dark London, this stage thriller tells a comical yet darkly Victorian story of relatives, homicide, class disparity, and dubious little pastry shops.

Guided by the director of Hamilton, Thomas Kail, this renewed music production features anew Hugh Wheeler’s acclaimed with the Tony Award book and esteemed composer Stephen Sondheim’s original music. The production also features the Olivier-winning choreography by Steven Hoggett and other visionary artists, including Mimi Lien (Scenes), Emilio Sosa (Costumes), Natasha Katz (Lighting), Nevin Steinberg (Sound), J. Jared Janas (Wig, Hair & Makeup), and Jeremy Chernick (Special effects).

Thanks to the remarkable 26-piece orchestration by Jonathan Tunick and musical supervision by Alex Lacamoire, spectators can savor new yet true interpretations of Sondheim’s well-known hits such as “A Little Priest,” “Pirelli’s Miracle Elixir” and “The Worst Pies in London.”

In a prior discussion with main actor Josh Groban, he reflects on his experience enacting the role of the central barber.

“… for me the most interesting aspect of Sweeney Todd was the contradictions: the captivating score matched with the sinisterly funny content, the dark storyline. There’s such a juxtaposition of elegance and grimness in the character, along with some of the most exceptional melodies and verses ever crafted. It really is nothing but a masterpiece to present, irrespective of the genre.”

Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is one of Broadway’s most remarkable achievements in the chronicles of musicals, continually applauded throughout its diverse incarnations by the Tony, Drama Desk, Olivier, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award-giving bodies.
